I’ve never taken a straight path, but every twist and turn has led me here. For the past 15 years, I’ve built businesses from the ground up: as a private chef, author, retreat caterer, and now as the founder of multiple creative ventures. Along the way, I discovered something important: while I loved creating food and experiences, what came to truly light me up was the creative process of design: turning visions into something tangible, beautiful, and functional.
When I became a mama, that spark deepened. I realized I didn’t just want to nurture my own businesses, I wanted to nurture other women, creatives, and small businesses, helping them bring their dreams into the world with clarity and care.
And then before my daughter turned two; life shifted. When I received my cancer diagnosis, everything in my world came into sharper focus. I began to ask myself: Does this make me happy? Does it make me excited for the future? (Can I do this from bed?)
In those tender weeks, Mermaid Creative Studio was born, and launched a week post surgery. Design had became my safe place; a way to escape medical worry, a creative and financial lifeline for my family, and a way to work online while losing myself in a fantasy world of mermaids and magic.
Mermaids have always carried symbolism of resilience, mystery, and transformation, and that’s what this business has come to mean for me. Like them, I’ve learned to move between worlds, to adapt, to thrive in places that once felt uncertain.
Today, Mermaid Creative Studio is more than a design business. It’s my way of helping women and mama-owned businesses across Hawai‘i and beyond create brands and websites that are alive, intentional, and true. My role isn’t just designer, it’s collaborator, guide, and sometimes even “business mama,” making sure you feel supported every step of the way.
